What is PROTECT® Technology?

PROTECT® is an exclusive antibacterial technology from Microban and Panaria Group, which integrates silver ions into the tile firing process. This technology provides extremely high antibacterial capabilities for both glazed and unglazed tiles, offering 24/7 health protection for the entire family.

The antibacterial features of Protect technology are effective in combating common bacteria, yeasts, molds, and agents that affect product quality, such as stains and odors. It eliminates up to 99.9% of three dangerous bacteria: Klebsiella Pneumoniae (causing pneumonia), Staphylococcus (causing infections), and Escherichia coli (causing intestinal diseases and diarrhea). This makes Protect especially beneficial for families with the elderly and young children, whose weaker immune systems require more protection.

How PROTECT® Technology Works

Silver ions are added to the tiles during the firing process at temperatures above 1200°C to activate their 24/7 antibacterial capabilities, ensuring protection day and night for the entire lifespan of the tile. Thanks to these silver ions (Ag+), PROTECT® can prevent the metabolism of bacteria that come into contact with the tile surface, inhibiting their proliferation and spread. With these excellent advantages, PROTECT® is a proprietary technology widely used in developed countries.

Despite its high antibacterial capabilities, Protect® is not a substitute for daily cleaning. Therefore, to maintain the beauty of the tile surface, you should clean it regularly with a neutral detergent.

PROTECT® vs. TiO2 Technology

The antibacterial, cleaning, and stain-removing capabilities of Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) air purification technology are only activated by sunlight. In contrast, PROTECT works without light, providing protection day and night.

Additionally, the TiO2 compound can only withstand a maximum temperature of 600°C, so it can only be applied to the tile surface after firing. This is a disadvantage of TiO2 technology, as it is very susceptible to wear and tear over time.

TiO2 technology is only activated by sunlight.

In contrast, Microban is applied before the tiles are fired, and its high heat resistance preserves a protective layer of 2-3mm on the tile surface. Therefore, even with frequent polishing or cleaning, the antibacterial capabilities of Microban technology are not affected.
